I Paint To Help My Sanity

Sometimes trials and tribulations, responsibilities, and just this plain old world get’s to you and you just need to run away for a bit. I’ll spare you my sob stories (yes, there are more than one), I’m sure none of you want to hear them, I don’t even want to hear them lol, but let me just say this, today I needed to run away from it all for a while, and when I get to feeling like this, I paint.

One day I was listening to music by Richard Stoltzman and the piece entitled ‘Maid With The Flaxen Hair’ played (link to music below). I got this image in my mind based on the music and title, and ever since then I have wanted to paint it. Today was a good day for it. This is the scene I envisioned….

Small Painting Of A Country Landscape

It is acrylic on canvas panel, measuring 5″ x 7″. Okay, so she doesn’t have true flaxen colored hair, which is a grey blond, my version has a bit more golden yellow in it, but who cares, right? Painting it didn’t fix anything in my world, or make my problems go away, but it brought a little bit of peace and calm to my day. The lovely music helps as well.

What do you like to do when life starts feeling claustrophobic?
